04. The Story of Prophet Hud (AS)

The Story of Prophet Hud (AS)

The People of ’Ad

A long time ago, in a place called ’Ad, there was a powerful and rich tribe. The people of ‘Ad were very strong and lived in beautiful homes, but they had forgotten Allah and worshipped idols. They became proud and arrogant, thinking they didn’t need anyone except themselves.

Prophet Hud (AS) was chosen by Allah to guide them back to the right path. He was from their own people, and he loved them dearly. Hud (AS) called them to worship Allah alone and to stop doing bad things. He said:

“Worship Allah, there is no god but Him. You have no other helper except Allah.” (Surah Hud 11:50)

The Message of Hud (AS)

Hud (AS) warned the people of ’Ad that if they didn’t stop worshipping idols and being unjust, they would face a great punishment. He told them that Allah was very kind and merciful, but they had to change their ways. He also reminded them of the blessings Allah had given them, like the fertile land and the abundant crops.

But the people didn’t listen to Hud (AS). They were too proud and didn’t want to change. They mocked him and said, “Why should we listen to you? You are just a man like us. If you were a prophet, why didn’t you bring a sign from Allah?”

The Punishment

After many years of warning, Hud (AS) told the people that if they did not believe, a terrible punishment would come upon them. The people refused to listen, so Allah sent a mighty wind. This wind was so strong that it tore apart their homes and trees, and swept away everything in its path.

The people of ’Ad were destroyed, and only Hud (AS) and the few people who believed in him were saved by Allah’s mercy.

✦ Lessons from Prophet Hud (AS):

  • Believe in Allah alone: Hud (AS) reminded his people to worship only Allah and avoid idols.
  • Be humble: The people of ’Ad were proud and arrogant, but they learned that no one is stronger than Allah.
  • The importance of patience: Prophet Hud (AS) was patient in delivering Allah’s message, even when people mocked him.

Prophet Hud’s (AS) story teaches us to trust in Allah, be humble, and always do what is right, even when others do not listen.
