07. The Story of Prophet Lut (AS)
The Story of Prophet Lut (AS)
A Prophet to the People of Sodom and Gomorrah
Prophet Lut (AS) was sent to the people of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. These people were known for their terrible and sinful behavior, especially for committing the evil act of homosexuality, which was strictly forbidden by Allah. They also indulged in other wicked deeds such as robbery, lying, and treating their neighbors poorly.
Prophet Lut (AS) was a kind and righteous man, and he was chosen by Allah to guide the people of these cities away from their immoral ways and back to worshipping Allah alone. He called them to believe in the One True God, to stop their sinful actions, and to treat others with kindness and respect.
The Rejection of Prophet Lut (AS)
Prophet Lut (AS) preached to his people, urging them to change their ways. However, most of them refused to listen to his message. They mocked him and continued to indulge in their sinful actions. Some of them even threatened to drive him out of the city.
Despite the opposition, Prophet Lut (AS) did not give up. He continued to warn them, reminding them of the punishment they would face if they did not repent and turn to Allah. He said to them:
“Do you commit such an abomination with men, instead of women? Indeed, you are a people behaving ignorantly.” (Quran 27:55)
The Visit of the Angels
One day, two angels in the form of handsome young men came to Prophet Lut (AS). When the people of the city saw them, they were eager to harm them, as they had done with others before. But Prophet Lut (AS) quickly realized who they were and understood that they were sent by Allah as a test for him and a sign of His punishment for the people.
The angels revealed to Prophet Lut (AS) that they were sent to destroy the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah because of the people’s extreme wickedness. They also told him to take his family and leave the city before the punishment came.
The Destruction of the Cities
That night, Prophet Lut (AS) and his family, except for his wife, who had disbelieved, left the city and traveled away from the sinful towns. Allah commanded the angels to turn the cities upside down. They brought a terrible punishment upon the people of Sodom and Gomorrah. The cities were struck by a mighty earthquake, and rain of stones from the sky destroyed everything. The people were completely wiped out, and only Prophet Lut (AS) and his followers were saved.
