12. Story of Prophet Yusuf (AS)

Story of Prophet Yusuf (AS)

Prophet Yusuf (AS) was one of the beloved sons of Prophet Ya’qub (AS). His story is about patience, trust in Allah, and how good always wins in the end.

Yusuf’s Dream

When Yusuf (AS) was a young boy, he had a special dream. He saw eleven stars, the sun, and the moon bowing to him. He told his father, Prophet Ya’qub (AS), who understood it was a sign from Allah that Yusuf (AS) would grow up to be a great leader. Prophet Ya’qub (AS) told Yusuf to keep the dream a secret because his brothers might become jealous.

The Brothers’ Jealousy

Yusuf’s (AS) brothers were jealous because their father loved him dearly. They made a plan to get rid of Yusuf. One day, they took him far away and threw him into a deep well. Then, they lied to their father, saying a wolf had eaten him.

Rescued and Sold

A group of travelers passed by the well and found Yusuf (AS). They took him out and sold him as a slave in Egypt. Yusuf (AS) was bought by a kind man, but soon he faced a big test when the man’s wife tried to harm him. Yusuf (AS) stayed strong and chose to obey Allah.

Yusuf in Prison

Because of false accusations, Yusuf (AS) was sent to prison, even though he did nothing wrong. While in prison, he helped others by explaining their dreams, a special gift Allah gave him. One of the prisoners later told the king about Yusuf’s wisdom.

Yusuf Becomes a Leader

The king called Yusuf (AS) to explain a strange dream he had about seven fat cows being eaten by seven thin ones. Yusuf (AS) told the king it meant Egypt would have seven years of plenty followed by seven years of famine. He also gave wise advice on how to save food during the good years to prepare for the bad ones.

Impressed by his honesty and knowledge, the king freed Yusuf (AS) and made him a leader in Egypt.

Reuniting with His Family

Years later, during the famine, Yusuf’s (AS) brothers came to Egypt to ask for food. They didn’t recognize him, but Yusuf (AS) recognized them. He tested their honesty and kindness before finally revealing his identity. The brothers were ashamed, but Yusuf (AS) forgave them.

Yusuf (AS) invited his entire family, including his parents, to Egypt. When they arrived, they bowed to him in respect, just as in his dream. This showed how Allah’s plan always comes true.
