Who Was He?
Hz Umar ibn Khattab (رضي الله عنه) was one of the greatest companions of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). Hazrat Umar ibn Al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه) was the second Caliph of Islam, and he ruled for 10 years, meaning he was the leader of the Muslim community after the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). also known as Al-Farooq, meaning “the one who distinguishes between right and wrong,” was one of the greatest companions of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. His strong character, justice, and devotion to Islam earned him this revered title. Hazrat Umar’s presence was so powerful that even Shaytaan (the devil) feared him. It is reported that the devil would change his path and go in a different direction when Hazrat Umar (رضي الله عنه) walked by, as his faith and commitment to righteousness were so strong that the devil was unable to influence him.
Hazrat Umar ibn Al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه) had a special relationship with Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, not only as a close companion but also through his family. His daughter, Hazrat Hafsa bint Umar (رضي الله عنها), was married to the Prophet ﷺ, making Umar (رضي الله عنه) the father-in-law of the Prophet ﷺ.
Early Life Hz Umar was born in Makkah, and he was initially not a Muslim. He was a strong and brave man but did not believe in Islam at first. One day, he heard about the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and decided to go and hurt him, but after meeting the Prophet, he changed his heart and became one of the Prophet’s closest companions.

He helped lead battles to protect Islam and its people, including in countries like Iraq, Syria, and Egypt. His army won many important battles, and through his leadership, Islam grew stronger.
A Man of Humility and Faith Hz Umar was known for his deep faith and love for Allah. He always followed the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and tried to live a simple life. Even though he became a great leader, he lived very humbly, wearing simple clothes and traveling modestly.
His Martyrdom Sadly, Hz Umar (رضي الله عنه) was attacked by a man named Abu Lu’lu, who was not a Muslim. Despite the attack, Hz Umar (رضي الله عنه) stayed strong and continued to serve the people. He passed away after a few days, and the people loved him so much. Before he died, he helped choose six people to pick the next caliph.
