7. JAHANNUM KI GEHRAEE
Hazrat Abu Hurerah(رضي الله عنه) bayan karte hai keh aik din ham Rasool Allah(ﷺ) kay paas baithay the, Achanak apne kisi cheez kay girnay ki awaz suni tou Aap ne farmaaya:
“Kiya tumhen maloom hai keh ye kis cheez ki awaz thi?”’
Hamne kaha: Allah aur uskay Rasool ko ziyada ilm hai.
Aap(ﷺ) ne farmaaya :
((ہٰذَا حَجَرٌ رُمِیَ بِہٖ فِی النَّارِ مُنْذُ سَبْعِیْنَ خَرِیْفًا ، فَہُوَ یَہْوِیْ فِی النَّارِ الْآنَ،حَتَّی انْتَہٰی إِلٰی قَعْرِہَا ))
“Ye aik pathar kay girnay ki awaz thi jisay sattar(70) hazar saal pehle jahannum mein phenka gaya tha aur wo jahannum ki gehraee mein baraber neechay jaata raha yahan tak keh ab wo iski gehraee tak ja pohancha hai.”
[Sahih Muslim: 2844]
Isi tarah Hazrat Anas bin Malik(رضي الله عنه) bayan karte hai keh, Rasool Allah(ﷺ) ne farmaaya :
(( لَوْ أَنَّ حَجَرًا مِثْلَ سَبْعِ خَلِفَاتٍ أُلْقِیَ عَنْ شَفِیْرِ جَہَنَّمَ،ہَوٰی فِیْہَا سَبْعِیْنَ خَرِیْفًا،لاَ یَبْلُغُ قَعْرَہَا))
“Agar aik pathar ko jo kay saat(07) moti ountniyon kay baraber ho jahannum kay kinare se jahannum kay ander giraya jae aur wo baraber sattar(70) saal tak isme girta rahe tou wo pathar bhi uski gehraee tak nahi pohanch sakega.”

The Vast Extent of Hell
Hell is huge and vast and immensely deep, as is proven by several things:
- Those who will enter Hell are innumerable, yet one of them will be so huge that his molars will be as big as Mount Uhud, and the distance between his shoulders will be equivalent to three days walking. Nevertheless, Hell will accommodate the huge number of disbeliever and evildoers who have existed throughout history, in spite of their huge size, and there will still be room for more, as Allaah says in the Qur’aan:
يَوْمَ نَقُولُ لِجَهَنَّمَ هَلِ ٱمْتَلَأْتِ وَتَقُولُ هَلْ مِن مَّزِيدٍۢ ٣٠
“On the Day when We will say to Hell: “Are you filled?” It will say: “Are there any more to come?”
(50:30)
The Fire of Hell is like a mill to which are brought thousands upon thousands of tons of grain, which it grinds tirelessly until it is all done, then waits for more. In the hadith that describes the debate between Paradise and Hell, it says that Allaah (swt) said to Hell,
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ “ اخْتَصَمَتِ الْجَنَّةُ وَالنَّارُ إِلَى رَبِّهِمَا فَقَالَتِ الْجَنَّةُ يَا رَبِّ مَا لَهَا لاَ يَدْخُلُهَا إِلاَّ ضُعَفَاءُ النَّاسِ وَسَقَطُهُمْ. وَقَالَتِ النَّارُ ـ يَعْنِي ـ أُوثِرْتُ بِالْمُتَكَبِّرِينَ. فَقَالَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى لِلْجَنَّةِ أَنْتِ رَحْمَتِي. وَقَالَ لِلنَّارِ أَنْتِ عَذَابِي أُصِيبُ بِكِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ، وَلِكُلِّ وَاحِدَةٍ مِنْكُمَا مِلْؤُهَا ـ قَالَ ـ فَأَمَّا الْجَنَّةُ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لاَ يَظْلِمُ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ أَحَدًا، وَإِنَّهُ يُنْشِئُ لِلنَّارِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ فَيُلْقَوْنَ فِيهَا فَتَقُولُ هَلْ مِنْ مَزِيدٍ. ثَلاَثًا، حَتَّى يَضَعَ فِيهَا قَدَمَهُ فَتَمْتَلِئُ وَيُرَدُّ بَعْضُهَا إِلَى بَعْضٍ وَتَقُولُ قَطْ قَطْ قَطْ ”.
Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Paradise and Hell (Fire) quarrelled in the presence of their Lord. Paradise said, ‘O Lord! What is wrong with me that only the poor and humble people enter me ?’ Hell (Fire) said, I have been favored with the arrogant people.’ So Allah said to Paradise, ‘You are My Mercy,’ and said to Hell, ‘You are My Punishment which I inflict upon whom I wish, and I shall fill both of you.’” The Prophet added, “As for Paradise, (it will be filled with good people) because Allah does not wrong any of His created things, and He creates for Hell (Fire) whomever He will, and they will be thrown into it, and it will say thrice, ‘Is there any more, till Allah (will put) His Foot over it and it will become full and its sides will come close to each other and it will say, ‘Qat! Qat! Qat! (Enough! Enough! Enough!)

2. Another indication of its vast depth is the fact that a stone thrown from the top of Hell takes a very long time to reach the bottom.
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذْ سَمِعَ وَجْبَةً فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ” تَدْرُونَ مَا هَذَا ” . قَالَ قُلْنَا اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ . قَالَ ” هَذَا حَجَرٌ رُمِيَ بِهِ فِي النَّارِ مُنْذُ سَبْعِينَ خَرِيفًا فَهُوَ يَهْوِي فِي النَّارِ الآنَ حَتَّى انْتَهَى إِلَى قَعْرِهَا ” .
Abu Huraira reported:

Haakim reports from Abu Hurayrah, and Tabaraani from Mu’aadh and Abu Umamah (ra) that the Prophet ﷺ said, “If there was a huge stone as big as seven khalifaat stones, and it was thrown from the edge of Hell it would fly through it for seventy years before it reached the bottom”.

3. The great number of angels who will bring Hell forth on the Day of Resurrection.
وَجِا۟ىٓءَ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِجَهَنَّمَ ۚ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ ٢٣
and Hell is brought forth on that Day—this is when every ˹disbelieving˺ person will remember ˹their own sins˺. But what is the use of remembering then?
(89:23)
The Prophet ﷺ said, “Hell will be brought forth that Day by means of seventy thousand ropes, each of which will be held by seventy thousand angels.”

We can only image the vastness of this terrifying creation that requires such a huge number of strong and powerful angels whose strength is known only to Allaah! May Allah save us form it!
4. Another indication of the vastness of Hell is the fact that two great creations like the sun and moon will be two rolled-up bulls in Hell. The Prophet ﷺ said: “The sun and moon will be two rolled-up bulls in Hell on the Day of Resurrection”

(۷) جہنم کی گہرائی
حضرت ابو ہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ ایک دن ہم رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس بیٹھے تھے ۔ اچانک آپ نے کسی چیز کے گرنے کی آواز سنی تو آپ نے فرمایا :
’’ کیا تمھیں معلوم ہے کہ یہ کس چیز کی آواز تھی ؟‘‘
ہم نے کہا : اللہ اور اس کے رسول صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو زیادہ علم ہے ۔
آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا :
(( ہٰذَا حَجَرٌ رُمِیَ بِہٖ فِی النَّارِ مُنْذُ سَبْعِیْنَ خَرِیْفًا ، فَہُوَ یَہْوِیْ فِی النَّارِ الْآنَ،حَتَّی انْتَہٰی إِلٰی قَعْرِہَا ))
’’ یہ ایک پتھر کے گرنے کی آواز تھی جسے ستر سال پہلے جہنم میں پھینکا گیا تھا اور وہ جہنم کی گہرائی میں برابر نیچے جاتا رہا یہاں تک کہ اب وہ اس کی گہرائی تک جا پہنچا ہے ۔‘‘
صحیح مسلم :2844
اسی طرح حضرت انس بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا :
(( لَوْ أَنَّ حَجَرًا مِثْلَ سَبْعِ خَلِفَاتٍ أُلْقِیَ عَنْ شَفِیْرِ جَہَنَّمَ،ہَوٰی فِیْہَا سَبْعِیْنَ خَرِیْفًا،لاَ یَبْلُغُ قَعْرَہَا))
’’ اگر ایک پتھر کو جو کہ سات موٹی اونٹنیوں کے برابر ہو جہنم کے کنارے سے جہنم کے اندر گرایا جائے اور وہ برابر ستر سال تک اس میں گرتا رہے تو وہ پھر بھی اس کی گہرائی تک نہیں پہنچ سکے گا۔ ‘‘
