Hazrat Zubair bin Awwam ( رضی اللہ عنہ)
Hz Zubair bin Awwam ( رضی اللہ عنہ) was given glad tidings of paradise by the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in the world. He ( رضی اللہ عنہ) was the companion of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) who was chosen to talk to Najashi on behalf of those who were to migrate to Habsha.
Name and Lineage of Hz Zubair bin Awwam ( رضی اللہ عنہ) :
Zubair bin awwam bin Khuwailid bin Asad bin Abdul Uzza bin Qusayi bin Kilaab.
Parents of Hz Zubair bin Awwam ( رضی اللہ عنہ) :
His father’s name was Awwam bin Khuwailid and his mother’s name was Safiyya bint Abdul Muttalib who was aunt of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).
Kunniyat of Hz Zubair bin Awwam ( رضی اللہ عنہ) :
Abu Taahir, Abu Abdullah.
Title of Hz Zubair bin Awwam ( رضی اللہ عنہ) :
Hawari Rasulullah.
Birth of Hz Zubair bin Awwam ( رضی اللہ عنہ) :
He ( رضی اللہ عنہ) was born in Makkah, 28 years before the migration (594 AD).
Hz Zubair bin Awwam ( رضی اللہ عنہ) in Islam :
He ( رضی اللہ عنہ) became Muslim in the initial days of dawah of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).
Characteristics of Hz Zubair bin Awwam ( رضی اللہ عنہ) :
- He ( رضی اللہ عنہ) got the privilege of 2 migrations (towards Habsha and Madina).
- He ( رضی اللہ عنہ) was the follower of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).
- He ( رضی اللہ عنہ) was the companion of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).
- He ( رضی اللہ عنہ) was among those 6 people whom Hz Umar ( رضی اللہ عنہ) chose for the caliphate.
- He ( رضی اللہ عنہ) was with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in almost all the battles.
- In most of the battles, he ( رضی اللہ عنہ) held the flag.

He had 6 wives.

He had 11 sons and 9 daughters. He named his sons’ names after the names of the martyrs.

Story of Abdullah bin Zubair (Son of Hz Zubair bin Awwam ( رضی اللہ عنہ):
Hz Abdullah bin Zubair was a great companion of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). Hajjaj bin Yusuf wanted to kill him.When Hz Abdullah bin Zubair got to know this, he went to his mother Asma bint Abubakr and told her,” It seems I will be martyred in 1 or 2 days”. His mother said,” Don’t worry, if you are on the right path, Allah will not leave it wasted”. He said,”I don’t care if I will be martyred, I am fearing if my dead body will be mutilated”. His mother answered, “When goats are slaughtered, there is no concern about whether it will be made into bones or minced meat”.
Death of Hz Zubair bin Awwam ( رضی اللہ عنہ) :
He ( رضی اللہ عنہ) died in 36 hijri (656 AD) in the battle of Jamal at the age of 64.
Merits and Status of Hz Abdurrahman bin Auf ( رضی اللہ عنہ) :
- He ( رضی اللہ عنہ) got the privilege of 2 migrations.
- He ( رضی اللہ عنہ) was among those 10 companions of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) who was given glad tidings of paradise in the world.
- He ( رضی اللہ عنہ) was present in the battle of Badr and Baitur Ridwan.(Those who were present in both these events, Allah claimed them the people of Paradise).
- The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) told him his companion and his friend.
Sahih Bukhari : 2847
Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah:
When the Prophet (ﷺ) called the people (Sadqa, a sub-narrator, said, ‘Most likely that happened on the day of Al-Khandaq) Az-Zubair responded to the call (i.e. to act as ascout).The Prophet) called the people again and Az-Zubair responded to the call. The Prophet (ﷺ) then said, “Every prophet had a disciple and my disciple is Zubair bin
Al-`Awwam.”
- The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) told him, “Let my mother and father be sacrificed for you”
Sahih Bukhari : 3720
Narrated `Abdullah bin Az-Zubair:
During the battle of Al-Ahzab, I and `Umar bin Abi-Salama were kept behind with the women. Behold! I saw (my father) Az-Zubair riding his horse, going to and coming from Bani Quraiza twice or thrice. So when I came back I said, “O my father! I saw you going to and coming from Bani Quraiza?” He said, “Did you really see me, O my son?” I said, “Yes.” He said, “Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, ‘Who will go to Bani Quraiza and bring me their news?’ So I went, and when I came back, Allah’s Apostle mentioned for me both his parents saying, “Let my father and mother be sacrificed for you.”‘
- Angels used to come into battle like him.
Tabqaat ibn Saad : 3/10
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “In a battle, Zubair bin Awwam went wearing a pink turban (imama) and the angels came wearing the same as him.
- He ( رضی اللہ عنہ) was present with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in the battle of Badar, Uhud, Khandak, Yarmuk and fighting and spending in the way of Allah was his favourite act and in this condition he ( رضی اللہ عنہ) left the world.
