29. KHUD KHUSHI KARNA [Suicide]

KHUD KHUSHI KARNA

Allah ta’ala ne farmaya:

“Aur aik dusre ko qatal na karo, yaqeen karo Allah tum par bara rehem karne wala hai aur jo sarkashi aur zulm se aisa karega tou ham anqareeb use aag mein jhonkenge aur Allah kay lie aisa karna bohot hi asan hai”

An-Nisa 4 : 29-30

Wahidi ne is ayat ki tafseer mein farmaya:

ولا تقتلوا انفسكم

Ya’ani tum mein se koi kisi ko qatal na kare, kyun keh tum sab ka aik deen hai aur tum aik nafs ki manind ho, Ibne Abbas رضي الله عنهما aur aksar ka yahi mazhabo muaqqaf hai aur kuch logon ka yeh khayal hai keh is se murad yeh hai keh insan ko apne aap ko qatal karne se mana’ kia hai, is muaqqaf ki taaid Abu Mansoor Muhammad Al mansoori ki sanad se Amr bin Aas رضي الله عنه se marwi riwayat se hoti hai, woh bayan karte hain aik sard raat mein mujhe ehtelam ho gaya aur main ghazwahe zatus salasil mein shareek tha, mujhe khadshah hua keh agar main ne ghusul kia tou main halak ho jaunga pas main ne tayammum kia aur apne sathion ko subha ki namaz parhai, main ne Nabi ﷺ se iska zikar kia tou aap ne farmaya:

“Amr! Tum ne apne sathion ko namaz parha di jab keh tum janbi the?”

“Aur aik dusre ko qatal na karo Allah tum par bara rehem karne wala hai”

An-Nisa 4 : 30

Is par RasullAllah ﷺ muskura die aur aap ne unhen kuch na kaha, is hadith se sabit hua keh Amr ne is ayat ki tafseer apne aap ko halak karne se ki hai, kisi aur ko qatal karne se nahin ki aur Nabi ﷺ ne is par nakeer nahin farmai,

“Aur jo aisa karega”

Ibne Abbas رضي الله عنهما farmaya karte the is mein un tamam umoor ki taraf ishara hai, jin se surat kay shuru se le kar yahan tak mana’ kia gaya hai aur ba’az ne kaha hai keh wa’eed baatil tareeqe se maal khane aur nafse muhrima ko qatal karne ki taraf raje’ hai

Ziadti kay sath, yeh keh Allah ne jiska amar dia hai us mein ziadti karna

Ya’ani us ne aag mein dakhil karne ki jo dhamki di hai, woh us kay waqe’ karne ya’ani aisa karne par qadir hai, yeh us kay lie asan hai

Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه bayan karte hain RasullAllah ﷺ ne farmaya:

“Jis shakhs ne apne aap ko lohe (kay aale) se qatal kia tou uska loha us kay hath mein hoga aur woh Jahannum mein hamesha kay lie apne pait mein marta rahega aur jis ne apne aap ko zeher se qatal kia tou uska zeher us kay hath mein hoga aur woh Jahannum mein hamesha hamesha kay lie thora thora kar kay use peeta rahega aur jis ne pahar se gir kar apne aap ko qatal kia tou woh hamesha hamesha kay lie Jahannum mein girta rahega”  [Bukhari: 5778; Muslim: 109]

Sabit bin dahhak رضي الله عنه bayan karte hain RasullAllah ﷺ ne farmaya:

“Momin par la’anat bhejna us kay qatal karne kay mutaradif hai, jis ne kisi momin par kufur ka bohtan lagaya tou woh us kay qatal karne kay mutaradif hai aur jis ne apne aap kisi cheez se qatal kia tou Roz-e-Qayamat usko usi kay sath azab dia jaega” [Bukhari: 6105; Muslim: 110]

Sahih hadith mein us aadmi kay muta’alliq hai jisko zakham ne takleef pohonchai tou us ne maut kay baare mein jald baazi ki aur apni talwar ki dhaar se apne aap ko qatal kar lia tou RasullAllah ﷺ ne farmaya:

“Woh shakhs Jahannumi hai ” [Bukhari: 2898; Muslim: 112]

Pas ham Allah ta’ala se dua karte hain keh woh hamen hamari rushdo hidayat ataa farmae aur hamen hamare nafson aur hamare bure aa’mal ki shuroor se mehfuz rakhe, kyun keh woh sakhi daata fayyaz bakhshne wala meherban hai.

NASEEHAT:

Ibne Adam! Tum apne aa’mal ko kese mazboot samajhte ho halan keh tumhen ma’lum hai keh woh aik dhoka faraib hai? Tum maula kay maamle ko kese chor dete ho halan keh tum jante ho keh woh mufeed hai? Tum apne zaade rah mein ese kami karte ho halan keh tum jante ho keh rasta lamba aur dur hai? Ham se airaz karne wale! Yeh jafa aur airaz kab tak chalegi? Maut aur umar se ghafil! Khatme mein koi shak nahin, apni umeed mein farefta hone wale, maut kay hath uski umeed ko qainchi kay sath kutar rahe hain, apni sehet aur apne badan kay baare mein ghuroor karne wale, tum har roz inhidamo shikastagi ki taraf ja rahe ho.

Ae woh shakhs! Jis ka kuch hissa rozana fana hota hai, Allah ki qasam! Anqareeb sara fana hojaega, zaade rah se ghafil shakhs! Halan keh siyahi (jawani) kay ba’ad safaidi (burhape) ne tujhe mutanabbeh kardia hai, Kam hifazat karne wale! Jab keh maut kay teer lambe chaure hain, ae woh shakhs jo talfo halakat kay ghaat ki taraf chalaya jata hai halan keh tu hauz se bhi dur kar dia gaya hai, ae muskurane wale! Fana ki ankhen soti nahin, jis shakhs kay samne yeh auqat hon tou uski palkhen chasham poshi par kese qadir ho sakti hain?

Suicide

Allah Most High states,

{And kill not one another. Surely, God is Compassionate to you, but whosoever does that in transgression and wrongfully, him We shall certainly roast at afire! and that for God is an easy matter.}

(An-Nisa’: 29-30)

In his explanation to these two verses, AI-Wahidy stated, {And kill not one another,} Muslims are prohibited to murder each other because they are adherents to one religion, Islam. Therefore they are like a single person. This is the opinion of Ibn `Abbas and the majority of scholars. However other scholars are of the opinion that the prohibition in this verse is restricted to suicide. To support their opinion, the latter group of scholars quotes the following ” Abu Mansour Ibn Muhammad AI-Mmsuri narrated’ Arnr Ibn AI-`Aas saying, “In the battle of Zatt Al-Salasil, I had a wet dream on a cold night. The weather was so cold that I feared becoming ill if I  had a shower. Therefore, I performed dry ablution (Tayamum) and led my companions in the Dawn Prayer. On our return to Medina, the Prophet (pbuh) said to me, ‘O `Arnr! “Have you led your companions in Prayer while you were in a state of major impurity?” Then I responded, “O Messenger of Allah! I read the verse, {And kill not one another! Surely God is Compassionate to you.} i.e, he had not had a shower lest it would bring his life to an end. On hearing this, the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) smiled and kept silent.”¹

This incident has a clear indication that’ Arnr (may Allah be pleased with him) grasped the meaning of the verse as a reference to suicide and the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) did not deny this.

{But whosoever does that, ~ refers to all prohibitions that the Surah states from its beginning according to the saying of Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both). Other scholars, however, are of the opinion that the reference here is to the consumption of another’s property with no right and unlawful murder.

{In transgression and wrongfully,} means that those who commit murder or suicide and rebel against the Laws of Allah.

{Him we shall certainly roast in a Fire; and that for God is an easy matter.}

Surely, Allah is the Omnipotent Who has Power to fulfill what He has promised or warned.

On the authority of Jundub Ibn ‘Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, “There was amongst those before you a man who had a wound. He was depressed that he took a knife and cut his hand. The blood did not cease to flow until he died. Allah the Almighty said, ‘My servant has forestalled Me, and I have forbidden paradise for him. .”²

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (pbuh) said,

¹Reported by Abu Dawud.

²Reported by AI-Bukhari.

“Whoever purposely throws himself from a mountain and kills himself will be in the Hell-fire falling down into it and abiding therein perpetually forever; and whoever drinks poison and kills himself with it, he will carry his poison in his hand and drink it in the Hell-fire wherein he will abide forever, and whoever kills himself with an iron weapon, he will carry that weapon in his hand and stab himself with it in the Hell-fire wherein he will abide forever.”¹

Thabit Ibn Al-Dahhak (may Allah be pleased with him) reported the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) to have said,

“He who killed himself with any thing in this world will be tormented with that very thing on the Day of Judgment. Both cursing the believer and charging him with disbelief is tantamount to killing him.”²

It is also stated in the Sahih that “The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) told his Companions about a man, who was wounded during a battle with the Prophet but he was not patient and he killed himself with the tip of his sword. The Prophet (pbuh) said “that this man will to be among the people of Hell.”³
