37. RIYAKAARI [Showing-Off]

RIYAA

 

Allah ta’ala ne munafiqon kay baare mein batate hue farmaya:

 

إِنَّ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ يُخَٰدِعُونَ ٱللَّهَ وَهُوَ خَٰدِعُهُمْ وَإِذَا قَامُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ قَامُوا۟ كُسَالَىٰ يُرَآءُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ وَلَا يَذْكُرُونَ ٱللَّهَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا۞
 

“Logon ko dikhlate hain aur Allah ka zikar baraae nam hi karte hain”

An-Nisa 4: 142

 

Aur Allah ta’ala ne farmaya:

 

فَوَيْلٌ لِّلْمُصَلِّينَ۞ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَن صَلَاتِهِمْ سَاهُونَ ۞ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ يُرَآءُونَ۞وَيَمْنَعُونَ ٱلْمَاعُونَ۞

 

“Pas un namazion kay lie halakat hai jo apni namazon se be-khabar hain, woh log jo riyaa kaari karte hain aur baratne ki cheezen bhi maange nahin dete”

Al-Ma’un 107: 4-7

 

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تُبْطِلُوا۟ صَدَقَٰتِكُم بِٱلْمَنِّ وَٱلْأَذَىٰ كَٱلَّذِى يُنفِقُ مَالَهُۥ رِئَآءَ ٱلنَّاسِ وَلَا يُؤْمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْءَاخِرِ ۖ فَمَثَلُهُۥ كَمَثَلِ صَفْوَانٍ عَلَيْهِ تُرَابٌ فَأَصَابَهُۥ وَابِلٌ فَتَرَكَهُۥ صَلْدًا ۖ لَّا يَقْدِرُونَ عَلَىٰ شَىْءٍ مِّمَّا كَسَبُوا۟ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ۞

 

“Ae iman walon! Apne sadaqat ko us shakhs ki tarah ehsan jaltlane aur takleef pohonchane se zaya na karo jo apna maal logon kay dikhawe kay lie kharch karta hai”

Al-Baqarah 2 : 264

 

Aur Allah ta’ala ne farmaya:

قُلْ إِنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ يُوحَىٰٓ إِلَىَّ أَنَّمَآ إِلَٰهُكُمْ إِلَٰهٌ وَٰحِدٌ ۖ فَمَن كَانَ يَرْجُوا۟ لِقَآءَ رَبِّهِۦ فَلْيَعْمَلْ عَمَلًا صَٰلِحًا وَلَا يُشْرِكْ بِعِبَادَةِ رَبِّهِۦٓ أَحَدًۢا۞

 

“Pas jo shakhs apne Rab ki mulaqat chahe’ usse chahiye keh wo naik amal kare aur apne Rab ki ibadat mein kisi ko bhi shareek na kare.”

1Al-Kahf 18: 110

 

Ya’ani apne amal kay zare’a Riya na kare. Abu Huraira رضي الله عنه bayan karte hain. Rasool Allah صلي الله عليه و سلم ne farmaya:
“Roz-e-qayamat logon mein se sab se pehle jis shakhs ka hisaab hoga wo Allah ki raah mein shaheed hone wala hoga. Jab wo un ka a’tiraaf kar lega’ tou Allah farmaega: tum ne un kay badle mein kia amal kiya? Wo arz karega. Main ne teri khatir qitaal kiya hatta keh main shaheed kar diya gaya. Allah farmaega: Tum ne jhoot bola. Balkeh tum ne tou is liye kiya takeh kaha jae wo juri shakhs hai. Wo tou keh diya gaya. Phir us kay mutaliq hukum diya jaega tou usse chehre kay bal ghaseet kar jahhanum mein daal diya jaega aur aik wo admi jisse Allah ne kashish atta ki hogi aur maal ki tamam asnaaf usse atta ki hongi. Phir usse pesh kiya jaega tou Allah usse apni naimaten yaad karaega’ wo un ka a’tiraaf kar lega tou Allah pochega: Tum ne un kay badle mein kia amal kiya? Wo arz karega: main ne har us jagah teri khatir kharch kiya’ jahan kharch karna tujhe passand tha. Allah farmaega: Tum ne jhoot bola. Tum ne tou is liye kaha tha takeh kaha jae keh wo bara sakhi hai. Wo tou keh diya gaya. Phir us kay bare mein hukum diya gaya tou usse us kay chehre kay bal ghaseet kar jahhanum mein daal diya jaega. Aur aik wo admi jis ne ilm seekha aur usse sikhaya aur Quran parha. Usse bhi pesh kiya jaega. Pas Allah usse apni naimaten yaad karaega. Wo un ka a’tiraaf kar lega’tou Allah pochega’ Tum ne un kay badle mein kia kiya? Wo arz karega: main ne ilm seekha aur main ne teri khatir Quran parha. Allah farmaega Tum ne jhoot bola. Balkeh tum ne is liye ilm hasil kiya tha keh kaha jae keh wo Alim hai aur tum ne is liye parha takeh kaha jae wo Qari hai phir us kay bare mein hukum diya jaega aur usse us kay chehre kay bal ghaseet kar jahhanum mein daal diya jaega.” [Muslim: 1905; Bukhari: 6499; Muslim: 2987]

 

Aur Aap ﷺ ne farmaya:

“Jis shakhs ne logon kay aib dusron ko sunae tou Allah us kay aib dusron ko dikhaega aur jis shakhs ne logon kay aib dusron ko dikhae tou Allah us kay aib dusron ko dikhaega” [Mustadrik hakim]

Khattabi ne farmaya: is ka ma’aani yeh hai keh jis shakhs ne ikhlas k bagher koi amal kia, uska mehez yeh iradah tha keh log use dekhen aur use sunen tou usko us par yeh jaza di jaegi keh woh use mash’hoor kar dega aur use ruswa karega, pas woh us par us kay woh aa’mal zahir kar dega jinko woh chupaya karta tha والله أعلم

Aur aap ﷺ ne farmaya:

“Ma’muli si riyaa bhi shirk hai” [Musnad Ahmed]

Aur aap ﷺ ne farmaya:

“Mujhe tumhare baare mein shirke asghar ka bohot andesha hai”

Tou arz kia gaya: Allah kay Rasul! Woh kia hai? Farmaya: “Riyaa, Allah ta’ala jis roz bandon ko un kay aa’mal ki jaza dega, farmaega: unhi logon kay pas chale jao jinko tum apne aa’mal dikhaya karte the, kia tum un kay han jaza pate ho?”

Aur Allah ta’ala kay is irshad kay baare mein kaha gaya hai

ۚ وَبَدَا لَهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَمْ يَكُونُوا۟ يَحْتَسِبُونَ

 

“Aur Allah ki taraf se un kay samne woh cheez ronuma ho jaegi, jiska unko wehmo guman tak na tha”

Az-Zumar 39: 47

Kaha gaya hai: unhon ne aa’mal kie jinhen woh dunia mein naikian khayal kia karte the, jab keh Roz-e-Qayamat woh un kay lie buraion ki Surat mein zahir honge, aur ba’az salaf jab yeh ayat tilawat karte tou woh kaha karte the : ehle riyaa kay lie halakat ho Yeh bhi kaha gaya hai , riyaa kaar ko Roz-e-Qayamat 4 naamon se pukara jaega: riyaa kaar, dhoke baaz, faajir, nakamo namurad, jaa aur jin kay lie tu ne amal kia tha unse apna ajar wusool kar, tere lie hamare pas koi ajar nahin.

[ Ibne ibid dunia ne jabla yahsabi se riwayat kia hai , unhon ne Sahabi se riwayat kia hai lekin uska nam nahin lia, uski asnaad za’eef hain]

Hasan Basri ne farmaya: riyaa kaar chahta hai keh woh apne baare mein Allah ki qadar par ghalib ajae, woh bura aadmi hai, woh logon ko batana chahta hai keh woh naik aadmi hai, woh kese keh sakte hain jab keh woh apne Rabb ki taraf se nikamme logon kay maqam ka mustahiq qarar paa chuka hai? Pas mominon kay dilon kay lie zaruri hai keh woh use pehchanen.

Qatadah رحمه الله bayan karte hain jab banda riyaa kaari karta hai tou Allah ta’ala farmata hai: mere is bande ki taraf dekho, mere sath kese istahza karta hai?

Riwayat kia jata hai keh Umar bin khattab ne aik aadmi ko dekhen keh woh apni gardan jhuka raha hai, unhon ne farmaya: gardan wale! Apni gardan uthao khushoo’ gardanon mein nahin , khushoo’ to dilon mein hai”

Bayan kia gaya keh Abu Umama bahili رضي الله عنه aik aadmi kay pas masjid mein ae jab keh woh apne sajdon mein ro ro kar dua kar raha tha, Abu Umama ne use kaha: tum ho, agar yeh (amal) tumhare ghar mein hota (to behtar hota)

Muhammad bin Mubarak as soori ne farmaya: rat kay waqt hai’ato surat zahir kia karo kyun keh woh din kay waqt zahir karne se behtar hai, islie keh din kay waqt hai’ato surat ka izhar makhlooq kay lie hai aur rat kay waqt ki hai’ato surat Rabbul aalameen kay lie hai.

Ali bin Abi Talib ne farmaya: riyaa kaar ki 3 alamaten hain:

Jab akela hota hai tou susti karta hai aur jab logon mein hota hai tou chust hota hai jab uski ta’reef ki jati hai tou amal ziada karta hai aur jab uski muzammat bayan ki jati hai tou phir kaam Kam karta hai

Fuzail bin Ayaz ne farmaya: logon ki khatir tarke amal riyaa hai, logon ki khatir amal karna shirk hai aur ikhlas yeh hai keh Allah tumhen in donon se aafiat bakhshe

Pas ham Allah se aa’malo aqwal aur harakato sakanat mein ma’oonato ikhlas ka sawal karte hain kyun keh woh sakhi daata fayyaz hai

NASEEHAT:

Allah kay bandon! Tumhare ayyam bohot kam hain, tumhare mu’aiz mohlik hain, pas chahie keh ba’ad wale pehlon ko khabar den, ghafil ko chahie keh qaaflon kay kooch karne se pehle baidar hojae, ae woh shakhs! Jisko yaqeen hai keh kooch karne mein koi shak nahin lekin us kay pas zaade rah hai na sawari

Khuwahishat kay bhanwar mein phanse hue shakhs, tu sahil ki taraf kab charhega? Kia tu khuwabe khargosh se baidar hua aur hazir dimagh kay sath mu’aiz mein hazir hua, aqalmand kay qiyam ki tarah rat ko qiyam kia, tu ne aansuon ( ki roshnai) se saail ki sutooren likhin

Tu is kay sath nadmo wasail ki lambi lambi sansen chupata hai, tu ne use behte aansuon kay safeene mein bheja, shayad keh woh sahil par langar andaz hojate, haae afsos maghroor jahil ghafil par, woh tou udher umar kay ba’ad kahil kay gunah kay sath bojhal ho gaya hai, us ne jawan mardi wa bahaduri zaya kardi aur use nadani mein zaya kardia, woh khuwahishat ki sawari ki taraf raghib sawari ki tarah maail hua woh imaraten banata aur qil’e mazboot karta hai jab keh woh apni qabar ki yad se ghafil hai, us kay ba’ad woh aqalmand hone ka da’wa karta hai, Allah ki qasam! Mujahid a’ala manazil ki taraf us par sabqat le gae jab keh woh apni bekari mein aamil ki si kamiabi ki umeed karta hai, haae afsos! Haae afsos! Be bunyad shakhs mehez lambi umeedon se kamiyab nahin hota

أيها المعجب فخراً
بمقاصير البيوت
إنما الدنيا محل
لقيام و قنوت
فغدا تنزل بيتا
ضيقا بعد النحوت
بين أقوام سکوت
ناطقات في الصموت
فارض في الدنيا بثوب
ومن العيش بقوت
واتخذ بيتا ضعيفا
مثل بيت العنكبوت
ثم قل: يا نفس هذا
 بيت مثواك فــمــوتـــی

 

Ae mehel numa ghar par fakhro ghuroor karne wale”

“Dunia tou mehez qiyamo qunoot (ita’at) ki jagah hai”

“Kal tu maut kay ba’ad aik tang ghar mein parao dalega”

“Aqwame khamoshan kay darmian, jo bolti bolti khamosh hogai”

“Pas dunia mein ek kapre aur guzare laaiq khaurak par razi hoja”

“Makri kay ghar ki tarah kamzor sa ghar bana, phir keh ae nafs! Yeh tera thikana hai, phir marna hai”

 Showing off in Good Work

Allah Most High describes the hypocrites saying, {When they stood up to prayer, they stand without earnestness, to see of men, but little do they hold Allah in remembrance.}

(An-Nisa’: 142)

He Most High also says, {So woe to the worshipers who are neglectful of their prayers, those who (want but) to be seen, but refuse (to supply) even) neighborly needs.}

(Al-Ma’un: 04-07)

{O ye who believe! Cancel not your charity by reminders of your generosity or by injury-like those who spend their wealth to be seen of men.}

(Al-Baqarah: 264)

{Whoever expects to meet his Lord, let him work righteousness, and, in the worship of his Lord, admit no one as partner}

(Al-Kahf: 110)

On the authority of Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said,

“The first of people who will be judged on the Day of Judgment will be a man who has died a martyr. He will be brought and Allah will make known to him His Favors and he will recognize them. (Allah) will say:

And what did you do with them? He will say: I fought for you until I died a martyr. He will say: You have lied. You did but fight so that it might be said (of you): He is courageous. And so it was said. Then he will be ordered to be dragged on his face until he is cast into Hell-Fire. (Next) will be a man who has studied (religious) knowledge and has taught it and who used to recite the Qur’an. He will be brought and Allah will make known to him His Favors and he will recognize them. (Allah) will say: And what did you do with them? He will say: I studied (religious) knowledge and taught it and I recited the Qur’an for Your sake. He will say: You have lied. You did but study (religious) knowledge so that it might be said (of you): He is learned. And you recited the Qur’an that it might be said (of you): He is a reciter. And so it was said. Then he will be ordered to be dragged on his face until he is cast into Hell-fire. (Then) will come a man whom Allah had made rich and to whom He had given all kinds of wealth. He will be brought and Allah will make known to him His Favors and he will recognize them. (Allah) will say: And what did you do with them? He will say: I have left no way in which You like money to be spent without spending for Your sake. He will say: You have lied. You did but do so that it might be said (of you): He is generous. And so it was said.Then he will be ordered to be dragged on his face until he is cast into Hell-Fire.”¹

Al-Khattabi said, “The unfaithful men who seek people and fame with their deeds would be presented on the Day of Judgment, with all their concealed and unknown defecates and faults.”

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) illustrated further,

“It is shirk (association, to seek people even with the slightest deeds.”¹

He (pbuh) also said,”For yo my greatest fear is from minor Shirk (association).” people said, “What is the minor shirk, O Messenger of Allah?” He debarred, “Showing off (is that minor shirk). Allah Most High will say on the Day of Judgment, “0 you who have sought people with their actions, go to them and see if they could compensate you!”

{But something will confront them from Allah, which they could never have counted upon!}

(Al-Zumar: 47)

In their explanation to this verse, some scholars said, those people used to act seemingly good deeds,which would appear Off the Day of Judgment to evil deeds.”

Some of the successors used to say when reading this verse, {Woe to those who seek people by their deeds.} It is said further that on the Day of Judgment those people would be called by four titles: Hypocrite,deceiver, unfaithful and loser, go to the people for whose sake you have done and take your compensation since we have no compensation for you.”

AI-Hassan also commented, “Wishing to overcome the Decree of Allah, the hypocrites try to appear as righteous men.

However, Allah would unveil their true reality before the faithful believers.” Qatadah said, “When the person did acts to be seen by people, Allah, the Almighty says, ‘look at my servant how he disregards Me.”

‘Umar Ibn AI-Khattab once saw a man declining his head in Prayer, therefore he said, “O you who decline his head, raise your head, for mindfulness exists in the heart only.” Abu Umamah saw a man weeping in Prayer in the mosque, whereupon he said, “O man, is it not better to do this in your house! (i.e., to be away from people)” Muhammad Ibn AI-Mubark used to say “It is better for everyone to show mindfulness and God-consciousness at night (in his house) for it will be solely for the Creator, whereas showing God-consciousness at day may be for the created.”

`Ali Ibn `Abi Talib (May Allah be pleased with him) said, “There are three signs for the one who works to be shown by people: Inactivity when alone and activity before people, love for estimation and abhorrence to criticism.”

AI-Fudail Ibn ‘Aiad said, “Riya’ (showing off) is to leave work because of people, shirk (association) is to work for the sake of people, while sincerity is to be saved from the two staffs by Allah.
