[Ahmed: 2/179]

Wo admi jis kay pas bayaban mein zaroorat se zaaid pani ho aur wo usse musafir ko istemal kay liye na de, wo admi jis ne kisi Imam ki bait ki, lekin us ne ye bait mehz Duniya ki khatir ki, agar wo us mein se kuch usse deta hai tou wo us se wafa (ita’at) karta hai aur agar wo us mein se kuch usse nahi deta tou wo us se wafa (ita’at) nahi karta, aur aik wo admi jis ne Asir kay ba’ad kisi ko souda farokht kiya, aur Allah ki qasam utha kar usse kaha keh main ne usse is qeemat par khareeda hai, wo (khareedar) uski tasdeeq kar deta hai (ya’ani usse saja samajhta hai) jabkeh wo (bai’e) aise nahi hai. [Bukhari: 2358; Muslim: 108]

“Aur aik wo admi jis ne apni zaroorat se bacha hua pani rook liya, tou Allah farmaega aj main tum se apna fazal rook leta hon, jaisa keh tum ne apni zaroorat se bacha hua pani rook liya tha, jaise tere hathon ne nahi banaya tha.”  Bukhari: 2389]

 Withholding Excess Water From Others

Allah, Most High says,{Say, ‘See ye? If your stream was lost one morning (in the underground), who then can supply you with clear flowing water?}

The Prophet (pbuh) said,”Do not withhold excess water to withhold pasturage.”¹

“Whoever denies others his surplus water or pasturage, Allah shall deny him His blessings on the Day of Judgment.”²

“There are three people whom Allah will not speak to, look at, or exonerate on the Day of Judgment, and who will have a painful torment: he who withholds excess water from a traveler in the desert, he who sells merchandise after ‘Asr (late afternoon) swearing by Allah that he paid more for it than he actually did, and a man who gives the pledge to a governor only for the sake of this world, and is only loyal if he gets something of this worldly life.”³

Al-Bukhari adds to the above hadith the following, “Whoever denies others his surplus water, Allah will say to him, “Today J will deny you my bounty as you did with what you could not create.”⁴
