27. HAZRAT YASA ( علیہ السلام ) [Prophet Elisha]

 Hazrat Yasa’a علیہ السلام

Naam-o-Nasab Aur Quraan Majeed Mein Aap Ka Tazkirah

Ap ka Naam-e-Mubarak Soorah-e-An’aam mein doosare Anbiya-e-Kiraam ke sath mazkoor hai. Irshad-e-Bari T’aala hai:

“Aur Ismail ko aur Al-yasa’a ko, Younas ko aur Loot ko. Ham ne har aik ko tamam jahan walon par fazilat di.” (Al-An’aam: 6/86)

Soorah-e-Saad mein irshad hai:

“(Aye Nabi!) Ismail, Al Yasa’a aur Zul-Kifal ka bhi zikar kar dijiye. Yeh sab behtareen log thay.” (Saad: 38/48)

Hazrat Hasan Basri رحمہ اللہ se riwaayat hai, Unhon ne farmaya: “Hazrat Al Yasa’a علیہ السلام, Hazrat Ilyas علیہ السلام ke ba’ad mab’oos huaye, Unhon ne apni qoam ko Allah ki taraf bulaya. Ap zindagi bhar Hazrat Ilyas علیہ السلام ki shari’at par amal pera rahe. Ap ki wafaat ke ba’ad qoam mein buraiyan phel gaien, Badkaar logon ko iqtidaar mil geya, Sarkash afraad ki ta’daad mein izafa ho gaya jinhon ne Anbiya-e-Kiraam ko shaheed kiya aur un mein aik sarkash aur baghi badshah bhi tha. Kaha jata hai keh usi badshah ki zimadari Hazrat Zulkifal علیہ السلام ne li thi keh agar woh taubah kar le to woh Jannat mein dakhil ho jaye ga. Isi munasibat se Hazrat Zul Kifal ko Zul Kifal ya’ani “Zimadari uthane wala” kaha jata hai.

Hafiz Ibn-e-Asaakir ne Ap ka nasab nama is tarah bayan kiya hai: ” Al Yasa’a Bin Adi Bin Shotlam Bin Ifraeem Bin Yousuf Bin Yaqoob Bin Is’haq Bin Ibrahim Khalilullah علیہم السلام . Ba’az Ulama’a ne unhein Hazrat Ilyas علیہ السلام ka chacha zaad qarar diya hai. Kehte hein keh Ap bhi Hazrat Ilyas علیہ السلام ke sat Koh-e-Qasiyon mein roo-posh rahe thay jab Ap Ba’albak ke badshah ke shar se bachne ke liye wahan chupe huaye thay. Jab Hazrat Ilyas علیہ السلام ghaar se bahir aaye to Al Yasa’a علیہ السلام bhi un ke sath apni qoam ke samne aa gaye. Phir jab Hazrat Ilyas علیہ السلام ko utha liya geya to Hazrat Al Yasa’a علیہ السلام

Moarikheen farmate hein: Jab Bani Israil ne bade bade gunahon ka irtikaab kiya hatta keh Anbiya-e-Kiraam علیہم السلام ko shaheed bhi Kiya to Allah T’aala ne un par zalim badshah musallat kar diye.

Bani Israil jab dushmanon se jang karte thay to Taboot-e-Sakeena rakhte thay jis mein Hazrat Mosa aur Hazrat Haroon علیہم السلام ke tabarukaat thay. Tab Allah T’aala ne Shamwail علیہ السلام ko mab’oos farmaya.

al-Yasa‘ (peace be upon him)

Praise be to Allah.

al-Yasa‘ (peace be upon him) was one of the Prophets of the Children of Israel; he was descended from Yoosuf ibn Ya‘qoob ibn Is-haaq ibn Ibraaheem al-Khaleel (peace be upon them all).

Allah mentions him twice in His Book, where He, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And Isma‘eel (Ishmael) and Al-Yasa‘ (Elisha), and Yoonus (Jonah) and Lout (Lot), and each one of them We preferred above the Alameen (mankind and jinns) (of their times)”

[al-An‘aam 6:86]

“And remember Isma‘il (Ishmael), Al-Yasa‘ (Elisha), and Dhul-Kifl (Isaiah), all are among the best”

[Saad 38:48].

It was said that he grew up under the care of Ilyaas (peace be upon him), and he hid with him in Jabal Qasiyoon. When Ilyaas was taken up to heaven, he left al-Yasa‘ as his successor among his people, and Allah appointed him as a Prophet after him.

It was narrated from Qataadah that al-Hasan said: After Ilyaas came al-Yasa‘ (peace be upon them both), and he remained among his people for as long as Allah willed, calling them to Allah, and adhering to the path and teachings of Ilyaas, until Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, took his soul in death. End quote.

Narrated by Ibn Katheer in Qasas al-Anbiya’ (2/252)

And it was said that one of the miracles by means of which Allah supported al-Yasa‘ was that he brought the dead back to life and healed the one born blind and the leper, and the river Jordan was dried up for him so that he walked across it, as is mentioned in Jewish sources. Allah knows best how sound that is. See: al-Jawaab as-Saheeh by Ibn Taymiyah (4/451-452)

What is required of the Muslim is to believe in what is narrated soundly from the Prophets and Messengers, for they conveyed everything with which they were sent, in the correct manner as Allah commanded them. As for anything other than that, such as da‘eef (weak) reports and reports from Jewish sources (known as al-Israa’eeliyyaat), they cannot be fully trusted and cannot be quoted as evidence, but there is nothing wrong with learning some lessons from them, as long as they are not contrary to anything that is proven in the Qur’an and Sunnah.
